After a five week trial and only 2 days of deliberations the jury in the Drew Peterson Murder Trial has determined that Drew Peterson is Guilty of First Degree Murder.
The Bolingbrook Police Sergeant now faces up to 60 years jail time for the murder of his ex wife, his third wife, Kathleen Savio.
Peterson long a suspect in the disappearance and likely murder of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, will live out his remaining year behind bars. Ironic for a man who was once a Police Sergeant.
Drew Peterson Guilty of First Degree Murder in a case that was all circumstantial and included “hearsay” evidence better known as testimony from the grave.
We will find out more from the jury when they inevitably make the media rounds but it seems very likely that the statements that Stacy Peterson told her Pastor and her divorce attorney, the hearsay evidence, are what helped nail the conviction that found Drew Peterson guilty of First Degree Murder and serving up a crushing defeat to the sometimes arrogant defense team.
The most damaging testimony came from Harry Smith, a divorce attorney for Stacy Peterson, and it really seems that his testimony in particular helped convince the jury to find Drew Peterson Guilty of First Degree Murder.
Ironically for Peterson, it appears that his missing and presumed dead fourth wife’s testimony helped convict him of murdering his third wife in what many might consider “Poetic Justice”
Smith was called to testify by the defense for Drew Peterson and their strategy quickly backfired when their witness became a huge asset for the defense team. The defense was heard loudly arguing whether Smith should be called to the stand.
Mounds of circumstantial evidence clearly convinced the jury to find Drew Peterson Guilty of First Degree Murder.
Peterson’s team will, of course file an appeal.
He now faces 60 years and will appear in court in November. Illinois does not have the death penalty.
For the family’s of both Kathleen Savio and Stacy Peterson, although they are still missing them immensely, they are sure to rest a bit easier knowing that Jury has found Drew Peterson Guilty of First Degree Murder.
