If you remember, UFC 151 was cancelled because of Jones. He was slated to fight Dan Henderson over the Labor Day weekend and Henderson suffered a partial tear of his MCL so he couldn’t fight.
Dana White was able to secure a replacement fighter, Chael Sonnen, and Jon Bone Jones wouldn’t fight him. At the time, White called Jones’ decision not to fight Sonnen “selfish” and “disgusting”.
And now, all of a sudden there has been a change of heart and Jon Bones Jones will fight Chad Sonnen.
Of course, it has to do with MONEY.
Jones and Sonnen will appear as opposing coaches in the FX network’s “The Ultimate Fighter” before their pay-per-view match against one another in April.
Jones, the son of a preacher, would like you to believe that his decision to fight Sonnen was made so as not to disappoint the fans but he did not seem to mind disappointing his fans over the Labor Day weekend and further hurting the Las Vegas economy over a busy holiday weekend since the fight would have taken place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.
Sonnen has taken to taunting Jones on twitter since that “selfish” and “disgusting” decision.
The soft spoken Jones had a lot to say about the fight in a recent conference call. Fox Sports reports that Jones said,
Chael is an interesting guy. I respect some things about him. Like the way he goes over there and gets what he wants, everything except for world championships or any championships. He’s a good talker. He’s definitely good for sport in some ways.
He’s extremely disrespectful. He’s not much of a championship-level athlete at all. He has some qualities. Most of those qualities are going to come to light when he retires, and maybe can do TV shows and commentating and things like that.
Jon Bones Jones will fight Chad Sonnen on April 27 in a pay per view bout.
