LAS VEGAS — Laketha Moore has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for the horrific abuse she inflicted on her 4-year-old daughter.
Moore, 37, was arrested in North Las Vegas in March 2013 and was charged with 31 neglect charges for abusing her daughter.
Workers at the apartment complex where Moore resided noticed what appeared to be a bathrobe belt tied onto the doorknob of a bedroom and the other end was tied to the doorknob of a bathroom so they entered the apartment.
What they found was shocking.
The 4-year-old was filthy and tied to the bed.
Her hair was matted, she had a black eye and had numerous cuts and bruises on her body. She told her rescuers that she was hungry because her mother tied her up all the time.
There was pail in the room filled with excrement and the child was left with no food and water.
Police were contacted and Moore arrived home while officer were at the home investigating.
She claimed that she did not have a babysitter and only left her daughter alone when she went to work and attended church services. She also claimed that she began to tie her daughter to the bed about a month before her arrest because she would ransack the house when left alone.
The starving child likely tried to get into the pantry in the kitchen which was reportedly stocked with food.
Moore even admitted to hitting the girl with a belt until the little girl passed out.
Laketha Moore will be off the streets for what is hoped will be at least 13 years although it is possible she will be released earlier.
She was sentenced Monday to a 13 years to life in prison term for her horrific acts of abuse.
