William Mootz , only 17 years old was last seen walking with a friend on Wednesday when he ended up falling in a drainage wash in Henderson has been found.
Family and friends held out hope until his body was discovered that the 17 year old who was described as a good swimmer with emergency preparedness experience, would be able to battle the raging waters that swept him away.
Even when the Metro Police scaled back their search efforts, the family continued to mobilize search efforts.
Unfortunately, William Mootz, did not survive.
A volunteer searcher found a body Friday morning that had blonde hair and the body has been positively identified as William Mootz.
Search efforts had been concentrated in a marshy area about three-quarters of a mile downstream of the wash where Mootz disappeared and that is where the body was located. Earlier one of his sneakers had been found.
On a facebook page that been created in his memory it notes that Mootz,
Was Going to be a Senior at Green Valley High School. He was in Choir and was a Wrestler and also an Eagle Scout. He was so many things, a son, little brother, boyfriend, best friend. Anyone he ever met im sure he made a great impression with them. His smile always seemed to brighten up the day. Will you will never be forgotten. Always in our hearts. Mootz’ father appeared on TV and thanked all the searches who had helped.
We had over 600 people come out here and help in the last two days. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out the way anybody wanted it to. We’re bringing him home.
A candlelight vigil has been scheduled for Saturday at 8 p.m. at Green Valley High School and a benefit fund has been set up at Nevada State Bank.
