Melissa Duran kidnap suspects court appearance
The two suspects that kidnapped Melissa Duran and made two ransom demands to her family appeared in court today.
Alejandro Manuel Sanchez, 25, and Cesar Sanches, 30 stand accused of first degree kidnapping, extortion, conspiracy to commit kidnapping and conspiracy to commit extortion
The Henderson teen, Melissa Duran, was getting ready for school that morning. Duran is a teen at Green Valley High School.
She answered a knock at the front door of her home, located near Warm Springs Road and Arroyo Grande Boulevard, at 7:30 am on Friday morning when she was abducted by 2 men.
A neighbors surveillance system was able to capture the car believed to be involved in the kidnapping and the photo was quickly circulated.
My News 3 reports that the car was located near Sunrise Mountain. Evidence obtained from the car helped police find the apartment where Duran was being held.
Shortly after kidnapping the teen, the Duran family was contacted twice with ransom demands of $150,000.
An intense search was undertaken and a warrant was secured for an apartment located at Stewart and Eastern Avenues in Las Vegas early Saturday morning.
One suspect was apprehended in that apartment and the other suspect was located in another apartment located in the same complex. Melissa Duran was found blindfolded but safe.
Melissa Duran has been described as a very hardworking girl. She had worked at Hot Dog on a Stick at the Galleria Mall in Henderson and recently accepted a new job . Since she allegedly found the job on Craig’s list, some of her friends had initially suspected that new her job might somehow be tied to her kidnapping.
That does not appear to be the case since the suspects worked for Melissa’s father in his landscaping business and had recently been fired.
Duran was rescued after being held for 21 hours.
The suspects have been placed on an “INS Hold” by immigration. Should that hold be release the suspects would be subject to bail of almost 1.2 million dollars.
