The shootings occurred in the urology department at the Center for Advanced Medicine building, which is located in the same building as the medical center but not affiliated with it.
Although police believe the Reno gunman targeted the Center for Advanced Medicine, they are unsure if the doctor that was killed and the two others wounded were his intended targets.
At a news conference today, police identified the decreased physician as Dr. Charles Gholdoian.
One of the wounded , who remains in critical condition, has been identified as Shawntae Spears.
The third victim, a female, has requested privacy and her name has not been released.
Patients who were in the waiting room that saw the Reno gunman said that the appeared normal but he did tell some of the patients something along the lines of, “You better get out of here”.
The shooting was reported just after 2 p.m. and authorities responded nearly instantaneously.
By 3:30 p.m. the situation was under control.
Some staff members, at first, were not sure if there was a true emergency or if it was a hospital drill.
As soon as they saw the numerous police cars and SWAT team, they knew it was real.
The hospital staff has been praised for maintaining a calm and professional tone.
This is the second recent tragedy to strike the Northern Nevada area.
In October, a 12-year-old gunman opened fire at Spark Middle School, killing beloved teacher Michael Landsberry and wounding two students before taking his own life.
Police know the identity of the Reno gunman but have not released his name yet until they notify his next of kin.
