Terry the Chimp is finally free after the embattled Las Vegas Zoo has finally permanently closed their doors.
It is surprising that the Las Vegas Zoo was allowed to remain in operation for so many years.
Numerous complaints, throughout the years, were made public about the operation that was run by a former police officer, Pat Dingle.
Perhaps though his connections as a detective with the police department, he was able to convince authorities to turn a blind eye to the plight of the animals.
Finally after his staff quit, he was issued an ultimatum and abruptly closed for business hanging a sign that the Zoo was closed for upgrades.
Terry the Chimp, for example, should have never been kept at the Las Vegas Zoo,
He has lived in isolation for the past 17 years at the Las Vegas Zoo.
Terry used to have companionship and was himself a former Ice Capades star.
As far back as 2001, George Knapp, reported on the condition of Terry the Chimp and noted that Terry was depressed after his companion died.
The chimp was still kept by himself at the Zoo by the former police officer turned Zookeeper until the Zoo closed it’s doors.
Fortunately the worlds largest sanctuary for rescued chimpanzees, Save the Chimps, has taken Terry in.
Terry the Chimp is adjusting to his new digs although efforts to introduce him and have him interact with other Chimps at the sanctuary are going slow, probably because he has been isolated for so many years.
He is in a great place though, where people truly care about him and no longer at a subclass “zoo” that put aside his well-being, and that of other animals, to make a buck.
