A horrible, freak party bus accident ends in death for 16 year old , Daniel “Dan” Fernandez after he popped his head out of a roof top hatch, aboard the double decker party bus. while it was going under a bridge.
Fernandez was on a double decker bus along with 65 others Friday night heading to Sweet 16 party in New Jersey. They were leaving from St Francis Prep in Queens where he was a student heading to Garfield, New Jersey for the party about a bus operated by Designer Limousine, Inc, long time party bus operator.
Designer Limousine notes that they have the largest custom made party bus in the country and are designed to provide “state of the art nightclub like surroundings“.
The New York Daily News reports that a security guard on the bus, Alex Franco, warned the teens to say away from the hatch.
The double decker party bus was crossing the George Washington Bridge going into New Jersey when the accident occurred at the Fletcher Avenue overpass of Interstate 95.
That is when Hernandez popped his head out of the hatch. His head reportedly struck the underside of the overpass
Franco said,
“I told them not to open the hatch, like three or four times, but kids, they don’t understand”
Franco then said he then went downstairs to the front of the bus and reported to the driver that it was too hot in the bus.
Just moments later, “I heard two guys screaming, ‘Oh my God, oh my God,” and ran back up to the second floor of the bus and saw Fernandez on the floor.
Friends and strangers alike are flocking to a memorial facebook page for Dan Fernandez that was recently created leaving notes of condolences.
Fernandez has been reported to be as a resident of Sayreville, NJ but his Facebook page said he’s from Woodside, Queens and he was attending St Francis Prep which is also located in Queens.
