The Colorado movie theater shooting that occurred on Friday morning has claimed the lives of 12 innocent victims and another 59 people who are still alive have been shot.
It is still not known what prompted the shooter, 24 year old James Homes, to storm into the movie theater dressed in body armor from head to toe, and wearing a gas mask.
The Century 16 Movie Theaters at the Aurora Town Center in Aurora, Colo. was packed for the Batman premiere, The Dark Knight Rises, and many fans were dressed up when they arrived for the midnight showing. Many people, at first, though that the man dressed in back with painted red hair was in some way connected to the premiere.
And then chaos broke out.
Homes reportedly threw out smoke grenades and started shooting.
Holmes was armed with an AR-15 assault rifle, a 12 gauge shotgun and a Glock .40 caliber handgun. Another Glock .40 caliber handgun was found in his car parked just outside the theater’s rear emergency exit.
According to Reuters, the guns were legally purchased at three Colorado gun stores, according to a law enforcement official close to the investigation. Investigators found a drum magazine for the assault rifle with a capacity of about 100 rounds in the theater and a large amount of ammunition in his car.
When police arrived at Holmes’ house, they found his place booby trapped and have evacuated 5 blocks surrounding the apartment while FBI agents and police used a fire engine ladder to reach the property and put a camera on the end of pole to look inside.
In a written statement, the Holmes family in San Diego said they were co-operating with police in San Diego and Aurora, and asked for the media to respect their privacy.
“Our hearts go out to those who were involved in this tragedy and to the families and friends of those involved.
Holmes was in the process of withdrawing from PhD studies at the University of Colorado-Denver.
The aftermath of Colorado movie theater shooting is very somber with both President Obama and Mitt Romney pulling campaign ads in Colorado while the state is in mourning. Queen Elizabeth also offered her condolences to President Obama. She said.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those killed and I wish the many who were injured a swift and full recovery.
Holmes reportedly told police that he was joker,has refused to cooperate with authorities and has asked for a lawyer. Other than a traffic ticket, Holmes has no criminal background or known terrorist ties.
