It’s extremely scary that the coyote killed in Las Vegas was located in the very popular area near E. Tropicana Ave and Spencer.
Coyote sightings are definitely on the rise and the coyote killed in Las Vegas today was in a main part of the valley.
The Jack Dailey Elementary School was placed on lock down Tuesday afternoon while officers addressed the situation. Officers ending up shooting and killing the coyote as it approached school grounds.
It was reportedly so big that officers at first weren’t sure if it was a wolf or a coyote.
They do look similar however coyotes have a bushy, thick tail, that it holds low to the ground, unlike the wolf.
Many people do not understand how a coyote ended up in that area.
There have been numerous coyote sightings in Anthem, though.
Marilyn Tannen was on the news only weeks ago with her two Yorkies who were severely mauled by a Coyote. Fortunately they survived. Another man Mr. Reed was on TV recently and he too had a Yorkie that was attacked.
He said the coyote came our of nowhere.
8 News Now had reported that the Nevada Department of Wildlife had received in excess of 50 calls regarding people that have spotted Coyotes but, unless it poses a safety threat, there is little they can do.
There are things that you can do to help coyote-proof your home and protect your pets.
The most important thing is to keep your pet on a leash. If you let your dog go out in a backyard, make sure it is well-lighted. Some experts recommend having your lighting system and sprinkler set to go on if there is motion so that it startles the coyotes.
Also, do not leave any food or water in the backyard.
The coyote killed in Las Vegas on Tuesday could have caused great harm to area children. Fortunately metro addressed the situation promptly.
