The new Nevada area code 725 has been implemented in phases. For those who have procrastinated now is the time to prepare for it because dialing patterns will soon change for those who live in the Silver State.
The new Nevada area code will permit the same 7 digit telephone number to be be assigned to different area codes within the state, so callers will have to dial 10 numbers for their call to go through.
In order to prepare Nevadans the change has been implemented in phases.
The first phase of implementation of the new Nevada area code began in August and ends May 2. The phase was designed to acclimate Nevadans to dialing 10 numbers. During the first phase calls would go through whether seven numbers were dialed or 10 since phone numbers within the new Nevada area code 725 have not yet been assigned.
Phase 2 begins May 3. On this date seven digit calling ends. Caller must dial the area code and phone number in order for calls to be connected, Callers that dial seven digits will hear a recording reminding them of proper dialing procedures.
Nevadans should ensure that any items that are programmed with a seven digit phone number are changed over to the new 10 digit calling format before May 3. Items that will be affected include,
The final phase begins June 3. That is when phone numbers from the new Nevada area code 725 will begin to be assigned.
