The Delaware SPCA has reported that Delaware Police arrest woman accused of crushing kittens to death with her hands.
Ashley Barnes, 21, has been charged with three felony counts of animal cruelty for intentionally crushing kittens to death that belonged to an acquaintance. Barnes is suspected of causing the death of the kittens by crushing kittens to death with her bare hands. She is suspected of being under the influence of prescription medication that she allegedly stolen from the acquaintance.
Anne Cavanaugh, Executive Director of Delaware SPCA said, “We’re very pleased that Ms. Barnes is in custody and we’d like to thank the Wilmington Police for their assistance as well as the anonymous person who gave us the information that led to her arrest.”
Barnes who is from Florida had only been in Delaware for approximately 3 weeks before allegedly committing this heinous crime. Other than being under the influence of prescription medication, it is not known why Barnes crushed the kittens to death or if she has a prior record in Florida, or any other state, for similar offenses.
The Link between animal abuse and human abuse has been widely studied. It is believed that many serial killers started with torturing or killing animals before escalating to killing humans in a move to likely “test the waters”.
According to PETA, “Acts of cruelty to animals are not mere indications of a minor personality flaw in the abuser; they are symptomatic of a deep mental disturbance.”
