The former Police Sargent who has been married four times will soon be on trial after being behind bars for 3 years.
The 57 year old Drew Peterson is accused of killing his third wife, Kathleen Savio and has long been suspected of killing his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson who disappeared October 29th, 2007.
Drew Peterson’s first 2 wives divorced him amid allegations of abuse and infidelity. His divorce from third wife Savio was finalized on October 10, 2003 and he promptly married his fourth wife, Stacy, 8 days later on October 18, 2003.
Although he has not been charged in his 4th wife’s disappearance, the family is positive that he was involved in her disappearance and the Drew Peterson trial will be closely monitored by Stacy Peterson’s family.
The divorce with Savio was not a friendly one and police responded 18 times to domestic disturbance calls, including calls for returning children late after visitation.
And then on March 1, 2004, Kathy Savio was found dead in her bathtub. Even though there was no water in the bathtub, the death was ruled an accidental drowning by a coroner’s jury that included a police officer who personally knew Peterson and assured the other jurors that Peterson was a good man who would never hurt his wife.
When Stacy Peterson disappeared seemingly without a trace, people began wondering if Peterson was somehow involved. Stacy’s pastor, Rev. Neil Schori, came forward and said that Stacy had told him that Drew had killed Kathleen Savio and had made it look like an accident and that she was afraid of her husband.
Drew Peterson maintains that she ran off with another man.
Finally the case of Savio was looked into more closely and her body was exhumed.
Dr. Michael Baden, a former New York City chief medical examiner who conducted the examination at the request of Savio’s relatives and Fox News, concluded that she died of drowning following a struggle when her body was placed in the bathtub.
On February 21, 2008, James Glasgow, the Will County State Attorney, announced that a pathologist determined that Savio’s death was a , “homicide staged to look like an accident”
On May 7, 2009, Peterson was indicted by a Will County, Illinois, grand jury and charged with the murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio. Peterson currently resides in the Will County Adult Detention Center in Joliet, Illinois awaiting trial.
Peterson’s behavior before he was incarcerated was considered strange by many. He was very much “in your face”, had confrontations with the media and even appeared on a radio show that was trying to find a fifth wife for him
He was briefly engaged to a 24 year old, Christine Raines who moved in with him and promptly moved out.
Jury selection in the Drew Peterson trial begins Monday.
