How utterly tragic that a family dies while saving dog.
On Saturday, Mary Elaina Scott, 57, Howard Gregory Kuljian, 54 and their son Gregory James Kuljian,16, were enjoying a day at the ocean with their dog.
Another daughter was also present as was Gregory”s girlfriend.
They were at Big Lagoon Beach, which is located about 300 miles north of San Francisco.
Apparently the dog chased a stick and went into the water. Gregory followed in at attempt to save his dog.
While this is occurring, the father went in after his son and the dog, in attempt to rescue them, but he didn’t know that Gregory had already gotten out of the water.
Gregory Kuljian went back over to his mother and they both went back into the water in search of Howard Kuljian.
They were dragged into the ocean because there were powerful waves that day.
Police were called and unfortunately, by the time help arrived, it was too late.
Further adding to the tragedy was that a park ranger had to run a half mile to get to the beach, since his car wasn’t made to handle the rugged terrain.
When he arrived, he wasn’t able to get to the family members because of the high surf,
Both of the parents bodies have since been recovered.
The teenager’s body has not been recovered and he is presumed dead.
The dog ended up getting out of the water on his own.
Being a huge animal lover myself, I would certainly go in the water or anywhere for that matter, to save my dogs and can certainly understand Gregory’s actions. It doesn’t make it any less tragic tough that three people are now dead.
