The robbery occurred early Tuesday morning just before 2am. Fortunately no one was hurt.
The armed robber walked up to the Casino Cashier’s cage at Las Vegas’ Ellis Island Casino and Microbrewery, pulled out a gun and demanded cash. The amount of money the suspect fled with has not been disclosed.
Ellis Island Casino is located a few blocks east of the Las Vegas strip. The casino has been around for years and attracts a large percentage of local based patrons.
The robber is described as a black male in his 30′s, 5’10″ with a medium build. He was wearing a black fishing hat, white shirt with vertical stripes, jeans and sneakers. (see photo)
Fortunately most robbers do not regularly target casinos, likely due to the vast amount of surveillance equipment and security force present.
There have been robberies of casino cages in the past and the suspects are usually swiftly apprehended. If someone does target a casino, such as the the suspect in this case, they will usually rob or attempt to rob the casino during the late night or early am hours.
Last month, Back in May, two robbers attempted to rob the luxurious Bellagio Casino. One person pepper sprayed a blackjack dealer while the other tried to steal high end chips.
The Bellagio was targeted back in 2010 when a robber, then known as the “Biker Bandit” stole over $1 million in chips from the tables at the casino. He had also robbed another casino and seemed quite proud of his “Biker bandit” moniker. The robber, the son of a former Judge, was caught because he was peddling the high denomination chips online and was sentenced to a 9 to 27 year prison term
