Benedetto “Ben” Vitale, the 59 year old Safe Nest director arrested, has been an employee of the shelter for 8 years. The director of donations at the shelter has been accused of attempting to coerce a woman into committing sex acts in exchange for Vitale signing off on the woman’s court ordered community service.
It’s tragically ironic since Safe Nest focus’ on helping victims of domestic violence.
Their website states,
Domestic violence takes multiple forms, including physical, sexual, emotional and verbal abuse, destruction of property, abuse of pets, social isolation and economic dependency. Anyone can be a victim of domestic violence regardless of age, gender, race, social status or sexual orientation.
It’s unfortunate that their director, of all people, decided to further exploit victims.
A 24 year old woman had gone to the agency to make arrangements to work off her court-ordered community service.
She visited the Safe Nest Donation Center located at 4208 Arcata Way to discuss her duties.
At some point during the discussion, Vitale, allegedly attempted to coerce her into committing sex acts in exchange for signing off on her work hours.
According to MyNews3, an investigation began on Sunday in relation to the allegations made by the unnamed woman. A two day investigation was undertaken which then resulted in Vitale’s arrest.
There may be many more victims out there since Vitale has worked at Safe Nest for approximately 8 years.
Safe Nest released a statement,
Safe Nest was informed that Ben Vitale, donation center director, was taken into custody by the North Vegas Police Department. The very serious allegations against Vitale stand in stark contrast to Safe Nest’s mission and commitment to provide a safe haven for victims of domestic violence. Safe Nest took immediate action upon learning of the arrest and circumstances surrounding it. We are fully cooperating with police and assisting in every way possible with their investigation. Vitale has been placed on administrative leave.
Vitale has been charged with on one count open and gross lewdness, one count of forgery and one count of sexually-motivated coercion. Other charges may still be brought against him.
