Paul Ciancia, 23, has been identified as the LAX Shooter who opened fire at the airport on Friday killing TSA agent Geraldo Hernandez and wounding six others.
Ciancia is from New Jersey.
Ciancia’s father, Paul Ciancia, owns Salem County Auto Repair in Pennsville, New Jersey, which is the city where the family home is located.
He reportedly has strong anti-government views and sent a text message to his brother before the shootings saying that he was thinking of killing himself.
His brother told his father and his father contacted police in New Jersey.
According to ABC Philidephia, police officials then made contact with authorities in LA, however, when police responded to his residence for a wellness check, Ciancia was not at the residence.
His roommates told officials that everything was fine, apparently unaware that the shootings had already began.
Cianica was a ticket holder and as he approached the security checkpoint he pulled out a gun from the bag he was carrying.
Inside the bag was a hand-written note saying that he wanted to “kill TSA and pigs”.
Ciancia opened fire and made his way past the security checkpoint screeners.
Before he was subdued he made his way all the way to the Burger King in the terminal.
Witnessed have said that Ciancia was asking people if they were TSA and if they were not, the shooter allegedly bypassed them.
Officials believe he acted alone.
Cianca has been described as a loner and as someone who blended in.
He attended a Catholic high school and later took a course in motorcycle mechanics.
At this time, police do not know the motive for the shootings.
It has been a very frustrating day for travelers who were evacuated from LAX airport.
The LAX airport lock down has caused many delays across the US and travelers are advised to double check flight times.
Travels flying in or out of LAX can check for updates on the LAX airport Twitter feed.
Ciancia was shot by officials and remains in critical condition.
He faces the death penalty.
