LAS VEGAS — Harold Byron Twigg who had been with Las Vegas Metro police for 15 years, killed himself Friday night in a casino parking garage.
Twigg, 44, known to many as Byron Twigg was off-duty shot himself in the head at approximately 11 p.m. in the garage of the Fiesta Rancho Casino located in North Las Vegas.
Earlier in the evening, Twigg reportedly attended a retirement party for David O’Leary.
O’Leary, a former with Captain with Metro Police, retired from the force, rather than face a demotion, after an internal police investigation found that he violated department policy and used his position to authorize taxpayer funds to arrange a private helicopter ride for DJ Ashba so he could propose to his girlfriend.
Twigg was married to Stacy Twigg also an officer at Metro.
The Office of Suicide Prevention listed Nevada’s suicide rate as the 5th highest in the nation and the 6th leading cause of death of Nevadans in figures released for the 2011. Males make up 80% of suicide deaths in Nevada..

The Clark Country coroner’s officer and a family members have positively identified the deceased as Officer Twigg, however the cause of death has not been officially released.
