The Model Mayhem website bills itself as “the #1 portfolio website for professional models and photographers,” but there is a dark side.

Women who have advertised their “services” on the website have turned up missing, and many of the so-called photographers and models are nothing more than exploitative perverts and prostitutes.

Those that aren’t prostitutes or involved in the adult modeling industry are often shocked to find out that many of the photographers are amateurs looking for nude or fetish models.  Gullible and vulnerable women are especially easy marks and, some of these women who had no intention of posing nude or prostituting themselves, but are in need of money, get sucked in.  Some are trafficked.  And some simply disappear.

Other women willingly use the Model Mayhem site as a springboard to prostitution.

Kara Nichols, an attractive blonde woman has been missing from Colorado Springs, Colo., since October 2012. Nichols, likely a prostitute who may have had had a drug problem, advertised on Model Mayhem and was reportedly on her way to a modeling gig before she disappeared. Raven Cassidy Furlong, another young girl with ties to Model Mayhem , was missing, however she was jsut a runway. She continues to use the Model Mayhem website and last logged in during the month of January 2014.

A woman in California filed a lawsuit and claims that two men, Emerson Callum and Lavont Flanders, raped, videotaped and trafficked her after meeting her on Model Mayhem.  The lawsuit was thrown out.

In Las Vegas, there are thousands of women who want to strike it big either on their own or by meeting wealthy sponsors.  Although prostitution is not legal in Las Vegas, it is a widespread problem. Many of the women engaged in, “the life,” as the prostitution circuit is often referred to, travel to a number of cities for the sole purpose of prostitution.

Here’s a snippet from a profile posted by a “model” on Model Mayhem who obviously travels the circuit,

Of course, there are some legitimate photographers and models who advertise on their site, however the Model Mayhem site, much like craigslist and backpage.com, are widely used by johns and prostitutes and also more serious sexual predators.
