New York Cold Case Solved 23 years later after suspect, Philip Ward, confesses in the murder of Veronica Bowen whose headless body was found on a rooftop in 1989. He is currently in jail for murdering another one of this girlfriends,Sheila Jackson, in front of her 11-year-old daughter.
His lawyer, Franklin Rothman, said Ward was helping authorities, spurred by a desire to build a better relationship with his and Bowen’s two children. “I killed Veronica Bowen,” he told investigators last month at the upstate New York prison.
Amazingly, it seems that Ward has developed a conscience some 23 years later after viciously killing her and ultimately decapitating her.
Bowen was 21 in 1989 when she disappeared.
She had recently moved out of the upper Manhattan apartment they shared, prosecutors said.
This is a key time when a woman faces extreme danger and in the case of Veronica Bowen, it proved deadly.
The murder was not likely the first time that she was the victim of domestic abuse at the hands of her then partner, Phillip Ward.
After Ward found out she was carrying another man’s child, he lured her to the apartment building’s roof beat her and stabbed her with a dagger. He ultimately cut off her head with a kitchen knife.
A terrible ending and a horrific way to treat someone that you supposedly love and shared children with.
Ward had long been a suspect since many times women are killed by their partners.
Apparently there was not enough evidence to convict Ward and the case was filed away in the cold case files.
New York Cold Case solved after 23 long years because the person responsible for the murder, Phillip Ward, confessed.
The cold-case division then reopened the case last year, after the confession.
As for closure, efforts to find Bowen’s relatives were unsuccessful.
