Jose Reyes, has been officially identified by officials as the gunman in the Spark Middle School Shooting on Monday that claimed the life of a popular teacher and wounded two children.
Officials had been withholding the name of the shooter “out of respect” for the gunman’s family.
That decision led to an public outcry to release the name, although postings on social media had earlier identified Reyes as the lone gunman.
Michael Landsberry, a popular math teacher at Sparks Middle School, died after being shot in the chest.
His heroic intervention saved the lives of countless students.
Students have been coming forward recalling their interactions with Reyes.
Some describe him as a typical 12-year-old who like video games and participated in sports, while others describe him as being a loner.
Before the shooting students claim that Reyes said,
You ruined my life and now I’m going to ruin yours.
Others indicated that Reyes may have been bullied and was seeking retaliation.
One student posted on his Facebook page that his life will be forever changed after witnessing the shooting.
Another said that she believed “Jose just snapped”.
It is believed that Reyes obtained the gun from parents home and his parents may face charges.
Numerous memorial pages on Facebook have been created to honor the Mike Landsberry who taught at Spark Middle School since 2006.
The shooter’s parents have not made an official statement yet.
An Aunt of Reyes, Rosalina Urtiz, went on record to say,
When they want to, his parents are going to speak.
