Former firefighter George Tiaffay pleads not guilty to murdering wife, Shauna Tiaffay, yet his alleged accomplice Noel Stevens has pleaded guilty.
When Las Vegan Shauna Tiaffay was found murdered in September of last year, her estranged husband quickly became a suspect.
Family and friends suspected him, however they were hoping against hope that it was not him, and tried very hard to not point any fingers at him.
Since she worked as a cocktail waitress, there was even some initial speculation that her murder was somehow connected to her job.
Perhaps she was being stalked by a customer.
The truth was even worse.
Her estranged husband wanted her dead.
George Tiaffay allegedly paid his acquaintance and accomplice, Noel Stevens $600 to murder his wife.
Stevens was said to have been overheard bragging to friends about committing an “m” for $20,000.
Stevens was homeless and items belonging to Shauna Tiaffay were located in areas connected with Stevens. Some of the items were believed to have been taken from a prior robbery at the Tiaffay home that was set up by George Tiaffay.
Shauna Tiaffay suffered brutally, enduring multiple blunt force injuries brought on by the deadly assault. She was hit at least 17 times in the head with a hammer.
Before Tiaffay was arrested, it appears that he tried to kill himself by driving his truck at a very high rate of speed into a concrete barrier on the freeway.
In a strange twist, George Tiaffay pleads not guilty to murdering his estranged wife yet Noel Stevens pleads guilty.
The conflicting pleas were given on Thursday, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal.
A trial date has been set for George Tiaffay for next year; January 14, 2014.
