Marina and Kevin Krim seemed like a couple who had it all. Kevin works as a CNBC digital media executive, Marina has been reported to be a Pediatrician and cares for her three children and also had the luxury of having a nanny. The ideal family was shattered and although, we still don’t know why, it seems that the New York killer nanny had financial issues.
Marina Krim is described as a very caring women. She maintained a daily blog about her family life and friends sing her praises. Before hiring a nanny, Marina Krim did her research and even traveled to the Dominican Republic to meet the potential nanny’s family before extending an offer of employment to her.
She did everything right and it still ended tragically.
On Thursday, Marina Krim was with her 3 year old daughter at a dance studio glass. The nanny, Yoselyn Ortega, 50, was supposed to meet Krim at the dance studio along with the other 2 Krim children; Leo, 2, and Lulu, 6.
When Ortega failed to show up, Marina Krim went back to her apartment. All of the lights were out so she went back downstairs to ask the doorman if Ortega had gone out. She was told Ortega had not left.
She returned to her apartment and began looking in all the rooms. When Marina Krim arrived in the bathroom, she saw her 2 children stabbed and bleeding in the bathtub. They were dying. Ortega then turned the knife on herself, in an apparent suicide attempt, after murdering the 2 Krim children.
Marina’s screams could be heard by numerous other tenants and 911 was called.
The question that everyone wants to know is why? Why did Ortega kill 2 innocent children? Why would she betray her employer who, by all accounts, treated her very well.
It appears that the New York killer nanny had financial issues. The Krim’s even offered Ortega additional work hours and tried to set her up for some extra work with another family. That family did not hire her thinking that Ortega was too grouchy.
Other neighbors said that her appearance radically changed over a short period of time losing so much weight that she aged 7 years in a period of months.
Ortega was forced to move back into a tenement due to financial issues and may have even been seeing a psychiatrist.
Many people have troubles, especially in this economy, and to brutally murder the children you were entrusted to care for and protect is especially heinous.
Ortega remains hospitalized and has not been charged yet. Even though the New York killer nanny had financial issues, there is still no motive for the killings or word on her mental state.
Our deepest condolences to the Krim family
