Sherrie Gahn an inspiration for Whitney Elementary school

Being a fan of the Ellen Show, it was extra terrific to learn about a member of the Las Vegas community who had dedicated herself to making a difference in the lives of needy children.. That person is Sherrie Gahn an inspiration for Whitney Elementary school.

She herself grew up in the projects and said she dreamed of being a teacher since she was four years old never dreaming of even becoming a principal.

She became the principal and said on her first day at the school, she noticed that the children needed help.

She became very involved going over and beyond to help make sure the kids needs were met because she wanted them to be able to focus on school and have the same chance as other children and being on equal footing.

She made sure the children had food to eat, clothes to eat and she also helped their families by soliciting donations from others.

Gahn has even arranged to pay electricity and water bills whens he heard fro the children that theirs had been turned off.

Here recognition by Ellen, a terrific humanitarian herself, has paved the way for Sherrie Gahn to be able to do even more for  “her children”.

Through Ellen’s connections, Target very generously donated $100,000, Justin Bieber matched that and even appeared at the school.

Since then Ellen Degeneres had ‘adopted” the school and continues to use her clout to help.

A new library has been built and Sherrie Gahn now has so many more resources available to her.

Others in  the community are helping too such as the continued generosity of Target, Station Casinos recently donated school supplies and even another local school,  Palo Verde High School donated 1500 books.

Burt really all of this has been made possible because of the actions of Sherrie Gahn, an inspiration for Whitney Elementary school and so many others
