LAS VEGAS — Ammar Harris, a self described pimp, who is already in jail awaiting trial for the deadly Las Vegas strip shooting and subsequent crash last year that claimed three lives, was sentenced Wednesday to 16 years to life in an unrelated sexual assault case that he committed in 2010 on an 18-year-old woman at an apartment located just off the Las Vegas Strip.
Harris, a self-described pimp, had a smirk on his face while the prosecution argued for the maximum sentence and did not speak on his own behalf. Harris will serve a minimum of 10 years for three counts related to the sexual assault that will run concurrently and six years for a robbery charge.
He allegedly did not speak at his sentencing because his legal team plans to appeal.
Harris’ trial for the deadly Las Vegas strip shooting had been postponed because of the sexual assault case, and he faces the death penalty in that case scheduled for September,
Although Harris had bragged in online videos about how much money he made the funds somehow disappeared after he was arrested. Harris claimed he was indigent and a public defender was appointed. Unable to get along with his team of public defenders, Harris was appointed a private attorney, at taxpayers expense, to defend him.
The Las Vegas strip shooting that occurred in Feb. 2013 claimed the lives of aspiring rapper Ken Cherry, cab driver Michael Bolden and the passenger in the taxi cab Sandra Sutton-Wasmund.
It is believed that Ammar Harris was involved in an argument with Cherry at the Haze nightclub at Aria. After both men left in the own vehicles, Harris followed Cherry’s car, pulled up alongside it and shot Cherry who lost control of his vehicle.
The out-of -control vehicle then plowed into the taxi cab and it exploded killing Bolden and Sutton-Wasmund.
Ammar Harris remains incarcerated at the CCDC.
