Women’s rights in Saudi Arabia further regress with text message alerts

I’ll admit it, I’m baffled, appalled and a bit amazed – all at the same time, each and every time I think about how repressed women are in many foreign countries. Right now I am incredibly sad that Women’s right in Saudi Arabia further regress with text message alerts.

Text alerts so that the men, who have God-like power, will know if they attempt to leave the country.

The system has actually been in place for some time, but after a woman escapes from Saudi Arabia, officials stepped up their notification system.

Not too long ago, I wrote a piece, Warnings for American Women considering marrying Muslim men so that American Woman can really gain an understanding of what it is like if they do marry a Muslim man; especially if they relocate to his “home” country.

In the quest for love, some women can be completely blinded and not realize what they are getting into.  They may not realize all the freedom that we have in the United States, whether you are a man or a woman because we were born here and it is simply second nature to us.

A great example to illustrate that is right here in Las Vegas.  A few years back, 3 brothers from a foreign country were provided homes in Las Vegas and were having a difficult time adjusting.  One brother lost a lot of weight.  The problem?  There were too many choices and he didn’t know what to eat since he never saw a modern supermarket.

It’s truly not like that everywhere and we should be extremely proud to be American.

It’s mind boggling that women in other countries, particularly Muslim countries, simply do not have that freedom.  They have to be covered up, are fairly isolated and there is a whole list of what they are allowed and not allowed to do.  Penalties for not compliance are stiff, and sometimes deadly.

Small bits of progress here and there have been made in various Muslim countries but not enough to really make a difference.

Saudi Arabia new text alert system to prevent women from escaping

And now, Women’s rights in Saudi Arabia further regress with text message alerts to husbands if their wives, “their property” attempt to leave the country. And it’s not just for wives, it is for any woman.  Remember, women have no rights there, so women have “guardians”

The text alert system started in mid-November, according to the Daily News and here is what it entails,

The “system” sends a text message to the male guardian that his female “charge” is leaving the country, even if they are traveling together.

That’s because, women are second class citizens in Saudi Arabia.

They can’t drive, are banned from participating in most sports and are barred from working in many places.

They also cannot leave the country, unless they have the explicit permission from their male, handler, boss and God-like figure.

According to Al Arabiya News,

Women are not allowed to leave the kingdom without permission from their male guardian, who must give his consent by signing what is known as the “yellow sheet” at the airport or border.

Apparently the male Saudi’s freaked when a Saudi woman escaped to Sweden.

To see Women’s rights in Saudi Arabia further regress with text message alerts is just so, so sad.

You should thank your lucky stars every day that you live in American.
