A Las Vegas baby stricken with cancer has been traveling back and forth from a children’s hospital in Los Angeles receiving treatment.
Her name is Judy Lucille Haynes and she was born on July 18, 2013. She’s a beautiful little girl and her parents, David Haynes and Tisha Carter, at first, did not realize anything was wrong.
According to her father, who is very active in the bowling community and own Haynes Bowling Supply,
We turned her over and saw something sticking out of her back.
That something turned out to be a rare form of cancer called neuroblastoma.
It’s so rare that most people have never heard of it and many doctors have never even cared for a child with neuroblastoma. It is even rarer for the tumor to be wrapped around the spine , as it is in Baby Judy’s case, resulting in a lack of movement in her legs.
David explains the situation on facebook,
Judy Lucille Haynes born June 18th. As many of you have heard through the bowling community grapevine, Judy was born with cancer. A tumor called neuroblastoma that affects about 650 kids a year, and half that number affect children under 2, its very rare that these tumors show up in newborns and another rarity is that the tumor attaches itself to the spinal cord as it did with Judy. Our little babybear has to endure too much at such an innocent age and now she has to beat these odds. On day 2 of her arrival into this world, Judy was airlifted to the Children’s hospital in LA to receive treatment. She began receiving the first of many chemo treatments the first week she arrived. Judy has immobility in her left leg that we are praying the reduction of the tumor will alleviate the pressure on her spinal cord and allow her to regain movement. Today we received news about the cancer from her biopsy, that it is NOT a stage of cancer that rejects treatment. We are hoping in the next few weeks that they allow us to leave LA and continue her chemotherapy at home and begin physical therapy on her lower extremities. This is a very difficult time for us and we appreciate the prayers and support from everyone as no one can ever predict when their world will be turned upside down.
It’s a difficult time for any parent to watch their child struggle, especially an infant. Baby Judy has already undergone two rounds of chemotherapy and there is still more treatment needed.
The Las Vegas Bowling community is holding a 9 Pin No Tap Fundraiser Bowling Tournament at The Orleans on August 11, 2013 to benefit Baby Judy and The Orleans is generously making a donation.
As you can imagine, expenses add up very quickly, including travel and related medical expenses, when faced with such an unexpected and serious situation
If you are unable to attend the tournament at The Orleans Casino and still want to assist Baby Judy, a PayPal account has been set up set up to help this local Las Vegas family with all the many expenses that they are facing.
Donations for Baby Judy can be made to PayPal via judylucille@yahoo.com.
