Most of us have heard the term “Suicide by cop”. Here’s a new tragic twist, “Suicide by bus”.
When a person commits “suicide by cop”, he deliberately acts in a threatening way and his goal is to provoke a lethal response from a law enforcement officer.
In this case, it appears the Leo Preston Miller, 52, deliberately acted in a way that would cause him to likely be killed.
On Friday, at approximately 11:30 am, Miller, was indeed killed when he was hit by an Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) operated Max bus in North Las Vegas at Las Vegas Blvd near Owens Ave.
Perhaps coincidentally, the accident occurred right in front of Woodlawn Cemetery.
The initial investigation, which included witness statements and a review of surveillance footage, indicated that Miller deliberately walked into the path of the bus, which was traveling North on Las Vegas Blvd.
He reportedly left his belongings on the sidewalk before walking into the street, stepping deliberately into the path of the oncoming bus that had passengers on board.
He suffered blunt force injuries to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Passengers on the bus have said that is appeared that the bus driver did all he could to avoid hitting Miller and that it appeared that he intentionally stepped in front of the bus.
The bus driver was visibly distraught and very upset after the accident. He was seen crying and talking on his cell phone.
By all accounts, it appeared that, for whatever reasons he had, Leon Miller committed “Suicide by bus”.
The Clark county Coroner’s officer has officially ruled that the cause of death was indeed suicide.
