A bar fight Tuesday night has left one woman dead and another woman arrested for murder.
The bar fight began inside Champagne’s Cafe, located on Maryland Parkway across the street from the Boulevard Mall.
Sarah Chavez, 22, who was reportedly with her boyfriend, became involved in an argument with two women who allegedly tripped her boyfriend.
The argument escalated and turned into a physical altercation inside the bar with Chavez allegedly choking one of the woman she was arguing with.
The bar fight continued into the parking lot outside of the establishment.
A bar patron followed the women out into the parking lot and, according to the police news release, intervened and broke up the fight.
During the fight, Chavez allegedly reached around the male patron who was breaking up the fight to hit the woman, later identified as Misty Madera, and heard her say that Chavez had a knife.
When police arrived at the scene at approximately 11 p.m.they found Madera suffering from stab wounds.
She was transported to the Sunrise Trauma Center where she later died of her injuries.
Chavez initially denied knowing that Madera had been stabbed.
She admitted to arming herself with a sharp object to protect herself and later admitted that she was carrying a knife.
Chavez was arrested for murder with a deadly weapon and was transported to the Clark County Detention Center.
A hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
