Las Vegas Metro police are trying to piece together what set off the apparent Las Vegas Gang Related shootings that started in the parking garage at the Rio Las Vegas Hotel and Casino and ended with a second shooting outside UMC Hospital early Sunday where a total of 5 people were injured.
According to Metro Police Deputy Chief Jim Owens, officers were already present at The Rio Casino since they were working an event at Crown Nightclub when gunfire erupted in the parking garage shortly before 4 a.m.
Since they were already present, they were fortunately able to respond very quickly.
In total, over 30 rounds of shots were fired. The Officers took cover when they arrived as shots were being directed at them. Two people were struck by the bullets. It is unclear at this time if they were hit by the officers bullets.
The gang violence that had erupted then continued at a Las Vegas Hospital where some of the injured victims were taken.
Approximately an hour and a half later 2 more victims were shot right outside University Medical Center where the two gunshot victims were being treated and where a group of acquaintances of the victims were gathered to show their support.
A fifth gunshot victim was transported by private car to Sunrise Hospital. car. All of those injured were expected to survive, Owens said.
No arrests have been made. Owens said two search warrants were executed Monday on two vehicles believed to be tied to those involved in the shooting.
Gang Violence has been a growing problem in the Las Vegas valley. In addition to the problem right here in Las Vegas, gang member from California frequently travel to Las Vegas adding to the problem.
