Unusual development in disappearance of Isabel Celis

The investigation into the disappearance of Isabel Celis has taken an unexpected turn.

Reports were circulating that Isabel’s two older brothers were removed from the care of one parent. ABC News has learned that the Sergio Celis, father of missing 6-year-old Isabel Celis, cannot have contact with the girl’s two older brothers, who are now in the custody of their mother Rebecca.  This means that the parents of Isabel Celis are no longer living together.  It is not  known if the parents were living separately prior to this startling development. Some reports have indicated that the parents were not together and that Isabel Celis’ disappeared from her father’s home.  This unusual development fuels further speculation as to why this information was shrouded in a veil of secrecy.  Also, Isabel’s parents have taken a lie detector test, but the results have not been made public.

Celis’ family has shied away from media coverage and kept a relatively low profile since reporting Celis’ disappearance to the police.

The family said they did not hear anything.  Did any of Isabel’s family check on her between the hours of 11pm when she was put to bed and 8am when was discovered missing? The police have not addressed this specifically other than to say the the Isabel’s mother left for work at 7 am inferring that no one checked on Isabel while she slept.  It has also been reported that Isabel usually slept with her 2 brothers but that she did not on Friday.  Neighbors reported hearing the Celis’ dogs barking loudly and also reported hearing male voices outside in the alley near the window where Celis slept. While these instances raise suspicion, they are in itself not necessarily criminal actions and the police have reported that the parents are cooperating.

In a statement released on Friday, police emphasized that it “is common practice” for Child Protective Services (CPS) to become involved in investigations regarding missing children.  The state agency decided to put in place ‘certain measures to ensure the continued welfare of the Celis children,’ the news release states.
