There are still many people out there who do not think that synthetic marijuana can cause much damage to a person and continue to pooh-pooh the critics.
For one girl in Texas, she may not realize just how close she came to dying because she is now brain damaged.
Emily Bauer, 17, from Cyprus, Texas purchased some fake marijuana at a gas station in December.
Shortly after smoking it, she developed a migraine headache.
Police were soon called to restrain her after she had a number of strokes which, according to Fox News, triggered a psychotic state.
The Independent reported that Bauer was having violent hallucinations and ran into walls. She also urinated on herself.
The effects continued and the decision was made to place Bauer in a medically-induced coma. Holes had to be drilled in her brain to relieve some of the pressure and her family was told that if she survived, she would be severely brain damaged.
She has apparently defeated the odds and survived but remains paralyzed.
Kids, looking up to their idols, may not realize the dangers they face when they emulate their favorite celebrities such as Miley Cyrus who caught on tape smoking Salvia.
People who abuse salvia, according to the National Institution on Drug Abuse generally experience hallucinations or “psychotomimetic” episodes, which are transient experiences that mimics a psychosis.
Another danger out there is “bath salts”.
Although they make look like true bath salts – the items that people place in their bath for it’s soothing effects, the “bath salts”, being sold as a means to get high are completely different.
Although banned in many states, emergency rooms doctors are seeing people that arrive so agitated that they need to be restrained. Some even have to be tasered.
The girl in Texas may be considered lucky since she’s still alive; however her quality of life has certainly been diminished.
